Getting back into old obsessions
I have realized that I am a dork of epic proportions.
Just a little background: I used to be really obsessed with anime and Orlando Bloom. Those obsession eventually led me to JE (don't ask me how) so I blame them for my current fangirliness.
But anyway, the most recent movie that Orlando was in was New York, I Love You. He was only in it for about 7 mins so I just downloaded that clip to watch for now. And while scraggly Orlando is adorable and I really liked his character, there was something else that captured my attention.

Look to the left side, at his ginormous flat-screen TV. He's watching Tales from Earthsea/Gedo Seki!!!! For V6 fans, you probably know that Okada voiced the main character. For Ghibli/Miyazaki fans, you probably know that this was his son's first directing project.

And trust me, I broke out my copy of Gedo Seki just to confirm that I was right. Which was unnecessary because they used this as a transition in the movie:

To make it even better, they made Orlando's character a Death Note fan.

Bravo, director, bravo!!!

How was the movie overall? I wanted to see it, but the only thing I heard about it was that it's pretentious. D:

I haven't seen the whole movie; just the Orlando part so far. I haven't really heard much about the movie but I'm curious.

But, re: comment above, does this mean anime is pretentious? What happened to being super-dorky?

I think anime is still super-dorky. But perhaps anime fans are getting pretentious?

Oh man, the Death Note thing is just hahahahaha.

Yeah, the Death Note thing made me so giggly.

Didn't Tales of Earthsea not come out in America? :/ Or did I just miss it? I'm a fan of both Ghibli and (sort of) V6, but I didn't know either of those things, lol. First KimuTaku in Howl's Moving Castle, and now Okada? I hope that in the next movie (I heard it was gonna be an adaptation of The Borrowers), they use a member of Arashi. Wouldn't that be the best thing ever?? *wishful thinking*
