Moving to DW?

First official post on DW. I'm still waiting in the queue to get my LJ imported over. It's been over 1.5 days but according to the DW staff, that's to be expected due to the mass exodus from LJ in the past few days. Nice to see that the staff here actually communicates with their users. Yay, DW! So once everything gets imported, I'm gonna start messing around with the site and layout, and all that stuff. For now, since most of my friends are still on LJ, I'll cross-post everything.

i really never read the dw_news but today i went through it to see, and when reading comments, i realize that denise is the one who comments on a lot with status updates and things, too. they really do communicate well and honestly, and i think that says a lot given the plethora of shady things lj has been doing recently. i'm still getting used to dw but i really do like it so far.

Yeah, after being on LJ so long, I'm shocked that someone actually takes the time to communicate and reply to the users. I just hope this continues even after DW rises in popularity.

by contrast i am reading the lj news comments about the new comments and finding things i didn't even know they'd done- everyone can edit and comments no longer display that they were edited. the wank it will cause when people can change their words without anyone knowing. and it doesn't take you to a comment when you post it, it takes you to the top of the page- people think we don't do comment memes? kink memes? anon memes? seriously? i mean subject lines and icon browsing not included, this is shit i didn't even know they'd fucked up.

Memes will be pretty much impossible with the new comment system. The only way I could find an actual fic in the midst of all the "THIS!" and "Please someone write it!" on a fic meme was with subject lines. The first time I saw the new comment pages, I thought the page hadn't loaded properly.

Oh, I tried the icon browsing thing yesterday and I discovered that it was case sensitive. Annoying. Don't get me started on the fact that the icons are not any order than I can discern. And the fact that if you have more than 15 icons and a shitty computer/Internet connection, you're screwed.

icons are in upload order- this is so retarded, since mine are all over the place, and some users have 100+ icons that they now have to scroll through to find it.

you do not ever get to fucking do that with access to my credit card information. as paying customers, you can't just treat us like shit. i am so out of this mess- this is actually ridiculous.

Why did anyone think it was a good idea to list things in upload order? Fuck if I know which icon I uploaded 10th. For once, I'm glad I only have 15 icons to load and scroll through.

Also glad that I stopped paying for LJ years ago. Otherwise, they'd probably be stealing from me, too. I hope others have also found this fascinating feature in their accounts.

You know, I wasn't even that pissed off by the new comment pages (though ugly and completely unusable), but once I found out that LJ couldn't give a fuck about what their paying customers are saying...rage.

so far i have discovered the following pretty BIG problems for me in the comments (i role-play with others in two je rps, one of which has run for almost 2 years now):

-comments are in rich text (ugh)
-no subject lines has stripped memes of usefulness but also a lot of our rp stuff
-anyone can now edit which was a paid account feature
-threading is balls
-you have to hover over a comment to find the rest of the options
-refresh page thing doesn't work, you still have to manually refresh to find what was posted since your comment came out
-SUBJECT LIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINES

For me, there's way too much white space (which apparently has been triggering migraines in people). And I can't tell where one comment thread ends and another begins. Trying to follow a thread is pretty much impossible. Also, expanding a thread, even by 1 comment, now takes forever. And they have to let people edit now because they took the preview option away.

I just read on LJ news that this comment page makeover is just the first step of a massive site redesign. I fear that all of LJ will soon become just as unusable as the comment pages.

oh god what i just realized is that by stripping subject lines lj has also effectively severely hurt the productivity and usefulness of all charity help communities which spring up after natural disasters

Well...fuck. Thank goodness for DW, right? I expect that in the future, these kind of endeavors will be run on DW and only advertised through the LJ communities (if there are still people on LJ by then).

For myself, I've never used this place for anything but rl pic spams, but now that just trying to browse an anonmeme is making my head hurt something awful.
