As I don't have Internet in my room right now, I'm far too lazy and busy to stay here and actually bitch about all the things I need to bitch about. So, right now, this entry is just a reminder to myself to finish the bitching later. Words like camera, car keys, movie, Wal-mart, police, and virus should be able to jog my memory.
So on Saturday, I was hanging out with Paul and Feifei. They both needed to go shopping for some things so I decided to go with them. We took a bus to Meijer and got pretty much everything on the list. We all came back and waited for Paul's brothers, who were driving down that day. We eventually met up with them after Asiantation got boring. They wanted to party on campus while we wanted to go watch "Hero" so Paul, after much negotiating, traded his camera for the keys to the Saturn. Nice deal, I'd say.
Anyway, I'm driving the Saturn 'cause I'm the only one who can drive legally but it's really different from the Toyota I drive so it was kinda jerky at the beginning. And driving through this campus is an absolute bitch, with all the one-way roads and pedistrians. I never want to drive in this town again. And of course, it's at night with some light rain so the visibility was crap. So let's review: I'm driving in a car I'm not accustomed to in a town I barely know on foot, much less in a car, and it's dark with rain obscuring my view. Oh, and the windshield wipers weren't doing their job. Lovely, isn't it?
Despite all the crappy conditions, we find our way to the movie theater and watched "Hero". I understood it so much better this time around 'cause there were English subtitles. I know, it's pathetic that a Chinese person needs English subtitles to understand a Chinese movie, but the language used in the movie was so archaic! Anyway, it's a very artistic and creative movie with lots of fight scenes that defy the laws of physics. Very interesting. And Jet Li. You can't go wrong with Jet Li. Feifei got a bit emotional at the end so that was different.
After the movie, we didn't want to head back to campus just yet so we drove around a bit. We went to a Wal-Mart and bought lots of crap, like cross-stitching kits and earring hooks. After all the browsing, we headed back. The driving conditions were worse than before 'cause the windows were fogging up and weren't de-fogging fast enough. The rain was still obscuring my view. I was getting really jittery and really wanted to park the car and get out.
We got back to campus and I stopped at an intersection 'cause there was red light. I waited for the light to turn green and then went on driving. Suddenly, the headlights of the car behind me got turned to maxium brightness and nearly blinded me. I was like "What the fuck?" and looked at my rearview window. And what do I find but a cop car with its lights whirling, asking me to pull over. Fuck. Just fuck. Majorly.
Of course, I pull over immediately. I'm running through in my mind what it was that I did wrong. I wasn't speeding 'cause I was just at a stop and I was easing past the intersection at like 15 MPH. I didn't run anyone over or anything like that. I was thinking maybe my rear lights were out or something. But you know what it was? The cop comes to the car and says I ran a red light. Bullshit! It was so green. I checked it three times! I checked the lights in front of me, on the sides of me, and I checked to see that the other lights were red before I went. Paul, who was sitting in the seat next to me, even said it was green. I got pulled over for running a green light. Funny, isn't it? But no, if the cop says it was red, it was red.
I wasn't about to argue with a cop in a car that's not mine. He asks for my lisence and proof of insurance. I gave him the lisence but we could not for the love of God find the proof of insurance. Fuck, again. We tried to call Paul's brothers and at first we couldn't get them, but when we did, they didn't know either. And they were being complete jerks on the phone. Grrr, not helping! Anyway, the cop let me off with a warning, thank God, and I immediately drove to the Illini Tower parking lot and parked the car. Like I said, never want to drive in this town again.
Oh, and I came back to my room to find that my Internet had been taken away because there may have been a virus or worm on one of the computers in this room. Ahhhhhhhhhh! On a brigher note, China won a few gold medals that day.
