Cake!
I got cheesecake! Traded it for anime with Mengyao, class of 2002. Cool dude. ^_^

And does anyone know who's been giving me so many hugs? I'm approaching 50,000 hugs... Not that I'm complaining or anything. Just wanted to make sure it's not a computer bug or worse, an Internet stalker.

You'll probably reach over 50000 hugs before midnight. If Eric hasn't closed his window, you're getting about 1 a second. Otherwise, it's 1 every 2 seconds for every person that has a certain window open.

Last night I noticed your 37 some odd hugs and I felt that was a fairly small number. I found out that if I click on the button too fast, it would tell me to stop. I could get a maximum of 1 hug per 2 seconds. Therefore, I decided to make the computer do the work for me. To my dismay, Firefox does not have a search engine for its extensions, so I read every one of their descriptions to see if any were marco-based extensions - none of them were.

Therefore, I tried to see if I could hug from an external website. Once I found the proper link and realized that the person access data in the form of $_GET[] and $_POST[] equally, I was really to roll. At first, I made 10000 iframes on a sample website, but only about one out of every 1000 would actually work and hug. Also, due to the massive amount of data transfer, I quickly realized that this was a very inefficient system, especially since I would have to manually refresh every 30-40 seconds. Then I came up with the idea of redirecting the page, to itself, thus effectively refreshing. I cut the refresh time down to 2 seconds and the iframes down to 1 (since that's all that I would need). Then, the automatic hug page was born.

But, of course, you wouldn't really care to here this story or any of the details because it's not like you really showed any interest in any of my programming achievements.

I actually thought it was you but I didn't think you would _actually_ spend time to program an automatic hug page. Guess I underestimated you. And it's not like I don't show interest, it's just that I don't understand half the stuff you tell me. You get really technically on me and you can't expect an computer-idiot like me to really comprehend it.

I took time away from math homework to program that. That must mean something. As to exactly what; even I'm not even sure

Here's the link if you want:

The code ... err, view source, despite the php in it's name, I could have done it all in html and it wouldn't make a single difference.

As to getting technical, maybe part of it is derived from how I never liked to receive the numbed down kid version. Hell in class today our sub refused to proof something because it was "too hard". I cannot possibly assume that just because a matrix is symmetrical is it not defective!

Also, if there is jargon you don't understand, you can always ask. Hell, over summer at Fermilab I spent an hour trying to explain to Ting what the difference between the primitives int and float was. It involved a detour into binary and then .... And Ting, pardon my French, is not the ... erm ... brightest bulb on the Christmas tree.

i'm a lazy programmer, so you got about 2 from me manually. but applause for someone who took the effort.

As wonderful as it may be, doesn't it rather make everyone else's hug worthless, unless everyone uses your page/code? But then the number is just grotesquely huge, and it's not really the hugger doing the hugging so much as Paul's code is doing the hugging.

I'd like to hug people by hand (or finger), but that's just me. And even if my hugs are still worthless, if I'm in the mood I'll hug. ^_^

But I coded it myself ...

Nevermind, I guess my hugs are indeed worthless.
