Internet at home is back!!! For the last few days, it's been torturing me by connecting but not actually receiving any packets. It was taunting me with the illusion of being connected. Cruel, cruel connection. But now it's back and I'm downloading things like crazy 'cause you never know when it'll decide to be evil again.

Speaking of evil, did y'all hear about the birth-giving fiasco yesterday? People are really amusing sometimes.

I had meetings at work from 11:00 to 4:30. I wanted to kill myself. Thankfully, I wasn't the only one that find these things completely boring and pointless. Many of my co-workers agree. They, however, could ditch. I was forced to stay for the whole fucking thing.

Birth giving fiasco?
[identity profile] anoudegozaruna.livejournal.com on June 8th, 2006 12:45 am (UTC)
Yeah. Since yesterday was 6.6.06, people were afraid to give birth. They either had a C-section the day before or took something to delay the birth until after. Amusing, no?

Yes.

Maybe.

I'd bet people are doing quite the contrary here in China, 'cause 6 is a lucky number in here. 6.6.06 ?!?! that sounds like the luckiest day ever.

oh, maybe except 2008-08-08....oh right, that's when the Beijing Olympics open, at 8:00 on 2008-08-08.

That's what my mom said. I bet there were plenty of babies born that day. Doubt any of them were named Damien, though.

8.8.08 at 8:00. That's so awesome.

When the Internet in our three apartments went away, everyone switched to wireless (because of someone with an insecure connection in the building). It was good at first, but then someone started to download things on it.

First, it's one thing when eight people steal Internet from you to play WoW or surf the Internet, but it's another thing to bring their Internet to its knees because of the greed of downloading. So, since it's insecure, I went into the administrative controls of their router and set bit torrent to low priority, and things like http (web surfing) to high priority. I did notice a decrease in lag after that. I'm sure that the rightful owners did as well.

So. Be mindful of the Internet you steal. Don't bring it to its knees. That's just mean.

So, the connection was insecure...did you help raise its self-esteem by making greater use of its abilities, or was preventing people from wrongfully raping it sufficient?
[identity profile] paakun.livejournal.com on June 8th, 2006 06:35 pm (UTC)
I was never quite able to sufficiently cap off the bit torrent usage. It's still crying.

Oh, I'm not. At least I think I'm not. At most, I'm downloading 2-5MB .zip files once an hour or so. That shouldn't do much, right?
[identity profile] paakun.livejournal.com on June 8th, 2006 06:36 pm (UTC)
Oh, that's not a problem. Whoever was massively using the Internet brought it so far to its knees it made dial up look fast.

Yeah, you're quite alright.
